2019 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) gold medalist John Leerams “Rambo” Chicano and Junior Elite Triathlete Lauren Plaza won big at the recently concluded Apollo Petroleum Jelly TRI 2020. The event, which took place last February 23 at Subic Bay, was organized by Bike King Philippines, and co-presented by Apollo Petroleum Jelly.
Fresh off his gold medal finish at the recently concluded 2019 Southeast Asian Games, Chicano was the fastest man in the race, having clocked in a total of 2:11:42 in the Standard Male 25-29 division. In the female category, Junior Elite Triathlete Lauren Plaza dominated the Sprint Female 15-19 division with a total time of 1:21:06.
Both champions who represented the Apollo Petroleum Jelly Team shared that Apollo Petroleum Jelly is an important tool in the rigorous sport of triathlon. “Apollo Petroleum Jelly is a must-have for triathletes like me especially during training and racing when we’re usually prone to blisters and chafing,” Chicano mused. Meanwhile, Plaza said, “Apollo Petroleum Jelly has always been my pre-race secret.” All participants in the race received a tub of Apollo Petroleum Jelly to help support their optimum performance.
The Apollo Petroleum Jelly TRI 2020 was the most sought-after opening race for the season as the triathletes were eager to get out of off-season mode. There were two distances and five categories at the Apollo Petroleum Jelly TRI 2020. The Sprint distance involved a 1.5Km swim, a 40Km bike ride, and a 10Km run, while the Standard distance saw triathletes taking on a 750m swim, a 20Km bike ride, and a 5Km run. The categories included individual (Standard and Sprint) and relay (Standard Distance only), which have sub-categories, namely all-men, all-women, and mixed team.
“This is our first triathlon race and we are very happy about the large participation as well as the collective positive feedback from the athletes. This event was conceptualized to create a venue for athletes to test their limits while enjoying a chafe-free experience,” Apollo Petroleum Jelly Brand Manager Jamie Reyes-Omorogbe stated
