Spreading the Importance of Sanitation & Hygiene on World Toilet Day 2021
NOVEMBER 19, 2021 — PHILUSA and Manila Water Foundation celebrate the World Health Organization’s global program highlighting the importance of sanitation and hygiene as main drivers for improving public health, gender equality, education, economic development, and environmental protection.
This year, the theme of World Toilet Day focuses on Valuing Toilets, which addresses the pressing matter of safely managed sanitation across the globe. According to the latest WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP) report, numbers are off-track by 3.6 billion people without access to clean toilets and waste management.
In line with this initiative, PHILUSA and MWF formally turned over a variety of sanitation and toilet cleaning products to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to enable both personnel and Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) a safe and fresh way to use toilets. Some of these products include household staples well-loved through the years, such as Albatross Deodorizer, Gleam, and Cleene.
These were distributed to both male and female dormitories of the following facilities, supervised by Jail Chief Superintendent Luisito Munoz (Regional Director of BJMP NCR):
- Marikina City Jail
- Taguig City Jail
- Mandaluyong City Jail
- Makati City Jail
- Manila City Jail
This activity aims to remind everyone of the daily significance of keeping clean and sanitized toilets, and how this simple task can greatly contribute to the overall health and well-being of the household, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
