Philusa Corporation, HOPE, and PCX Unite for a Coastal Clean-Up at Las Piñas – Parañaque Wetland Park
Philusa Corporation, in partnership with HOPE and PCX, recently organized a coastal clean-up drive on October 16, 2023, at the Las Piñas – Parañaque Wetland Park. The volunteering activity was part of PHILUSA’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, spearheaded by the PHILUSA Family Council (PhilFaCo), in commemoration of the company’s 66th anniversary. The clean-up effort was led by Mr. Neogin Evangelista, President and General Manager of Philusa Corporation, and supported by Johanna Venice Dela Cruz, Brand Manager and Sustainability Lead, and Rhea Mariel Sapuyot, PhilFaCo Head.
The Las Piñas – Parañaque Wetland Park is an ecological site located in the southern part of Metro Manila. This area plays a vital role in maintaining the balance of our ecosystem, serving as a habitat for various flora and fauna and providing a crucial buffer against flooding in the surrounding communities. However, like many coastal areas, it faces threats from pollution, especially plastic waste.
With a shared vision of protecting communities, the CSR effort brought together Philusa volunteers from different departments with the help and supervision of HOPE and PCX. Armed with nifty nabbers, reused sacks, and an unwavering commitment to saving the environment, Philusa volunteers set out to rid of plastic waste and litter in the area.
Mr. Neogin Evangelista expressed his drive for environmental conservation and his determination to lead by example, “Ang commitment ng Philusa is to help, especially in sustainable programs. This is something we embrace as a company, and it’s part of our corporate strategy to be able to truly help communities in whatever ways we can”.
Philusa volunteers collected a total of 84.5 kilograms of plastic waste from the wetland park. All the plastic waste collected during the activity was donated to Aling Ligaya, a resident of Barangay 830 in Manila. Aling Ligaya is part of HOPE’s “Aling Tindera”, a waste-to-cash program that aims to support the vulnerable informal waste sector.
The coastal clean-up collaboration of PHILUSA Corporation, HOPE, and PCX at Las Piñas – Parañaque Wetland Park serves as a reminder that synergy can bring about meaningful change. By coming together with a shared vision and purpose, organizations can make a greener difference, one collective effort at a time.
